Located within the countryside to the west of Tentsmuir Forest, the Rhynd Farm was predominantly a dairy, but was also used as a base for farming cereals. Many of the agricultural buildings were no longer in active use, and our client wanted to reuse the vacant buildings in a sustainable way to bring additional income streams for the farming enterprise.
MFA was therefore tasked with designing and obtaining the relevant statutory approvals for an event space, as well as a café. The former cattle shed has been converted into an event space, which is primarily used for weddings, whilst the former grain store has been converted into a café that features much of the original stonework, timber and roof. The key approach with this project was minimal intervention to ensure that the character and rustic charm of the farm buildings was maintained.
