This small redundant outhouse (former beer cellar and store to old Castle Tavern) was sympathetically altered to provide additional residential accommodation associated with the adjoining dwellinghouse. The property, within the Outstanding St Andrews Conservation Area, involved removing the existing roughcast to expose the original stonework which was then repaired/repointed, the defective pantile mono pitch roof was replaced and clad with natural slate and a small porch extension lined in oak was built to provide a rear entrance to the dwellinghouse. The alterations were undertaken with the aim of conserving the building’s character whilst upgrading it to make it more energy efficient.
