Extension & refurbishment

Within the Outstanding Conservation Area of the seaside town of Elie, this project involved the complete refurbishment of a stone terraced dwellinghouse.  With input from interior and landscape designers, MFA designed a new sensitive rear extension along with the conversion of a small stone outhouse into a summer room.

Traditional lead stand and seam roofing was used in a modern way along with triple glazed folding windows and doors which seamlessly connect the long garden spaces to the new rooms.  The garden was designed to include the building materials of western red cedar and incorporated echos of boat shapes bound with corten steel.
