MFA designed this modest extension to a property located in a prominent position adjacent to the shoreline within the Cellardyke Conservation Area. Our clients wanted to upgrade and extend their kitchen/dining area as it was too small and dark which did not take advantage of the seaward views.
The project entailed removing an existing timber framed balcony and erecting a contemporary single storey extension to provide a modern, light filled open plan living area. A replacement first floor balcony with horizontal steel wire balustrade was also incorporated into the design proposals. The extended area allowed for a spacious open plan kitchen and dining/living area to be formed with expansive views out over the Firth of Forth towards the Isle of May. Externally, natural stone, timber and stainless steel were utilised along with extensive high performance glazing to flood the extension with natural light.
