MFA was approached by a private client who wanted to replace their current dilapidated and architecturally poor existing porch with an entrance which better reflected the form of the 1960s dwellinghouse.
The site was located within the Outstanding St Andrews Conservation Area and as such it was important to ensure that the design approach accorded with both the architectural and visual quality of the property as well as maintaining and enhancing the character of the St Andrews Conservation Area.
The design approach adopted for the porch incorporates overhanging eaves and an exposed structure which uses comparable window fenestration to gel the porch to the existing house details. The pitched roof uses a similar red clay tile to continue the “Red Roofs” image.
