Private Dwelling - Letham

MFA was initially appointed to secure planning permission in principle for a new dwelling on land associated with a former quarry adjacent to the rural village of Letham.  Following approval, we were commissioned to design a bespoke 1½ storey, 4 bedroom family home that responded to the site specific requirements and conditions of the consent.

Occupying a prominent sloping site adjoining both the curtilage of a listed building and the Letham Conservation Area, the project required a sensitive design approach.  Careful consideration was given to the scale, massing and form of the dwelling to ensure it reflected the traditional vernacular architecture of the locality whilst sitting comfortably within its historic setting.

The design was also shaped by the site's topography, allowing the house to blend into the landscape and minimise its visual impact when viewed from the wider countryside.  Internally, the layout was arranged to provide bright, contemporary living spaces tailored to modern family life, with large areas of glazing positioned to capture spectacular views across the Howe of Fife towards the Lomond Hills.
