Working on behalf of Campion Homes Ltd, MFA designed a range of bespoke new 3, 4 and 5 bed detached bungalows as well as a mix of 2 and 3 bed affordable bungalows to create an attractive new settlement edge at the south of the village. The single storey dwellings range from 100m² to 267m² in footprint and adopt a modern contemporary design using a simple range of finishing materials including flat concrete roof tiles, a mix of rendered walls with reconstituted stone feature panels and either stained timber or uPVC windows and doors.
The layout of the development was informed by a number of factors including the size and physical characteristics of the site, the number of dwellinghouses proposed as well as the requirement for a vehicular connection through to Osnaburgh Court, the need to provide a second vehicular access from Station Road as well as the requirement to protect existing views from properties in Osnaburgh Court. The layout was refined through several design iterations with the emphasis at each stage firmly rooted in the description of the six qualities of successful places set out in the Scottish Government Policy Document, Designing Places. The development once completed will reflect not only the prevailing built form, but will introduce a distinctive low density development at around 14 dwellings per hectare.
