The Scottish Government and Historic Environment Scotland are committed to conserving the built heritage and using it in a way that meets the needs of today without compromising the ability of future generations to understand, appreciate and benefit from it.
There are around 47,000 listed buildings and over 600 Conservation Areas in Scotland. Listed buildings enrich Scotland’s landscape as they help to create our distinctive character and span a wide range of uses and periods. Likewise, Conservation Areas are crucial to the protection and enhancement of our built environment.
Development affecting the setting and fabric of these areas and buildings has to be carefully considered due to their special nature. MFA has a wealth of experience in dealing with sensitive planning challenges associated with the historic built environment and we are well versed in the corresponding legislation and policy guidance.
