Rural Development

At the national level, the Scottish Government seeks to support sustainable and resilient rural communities through a positive approach to rural development and economic growth.

National Planning Framework 4 (NPF4) recognises the important contribution that rural areas make to Scotland's economy, environment and way of life.  Through policies relating to sustainable rural development, business and industry, rural homes and tourism, NPF4 supports development that helps rural communities and businesses thrive whilst protecting and enhancing the natural and historic environment.

At MFA, we provide strategic planning and development advice to landowners, farmers, rural businesses and estate owners on a wide range of rural development opportunities.  From farm diversification projects and tourism developments to rural housing, agricultural buildings and renewable energy proposals, we help clients identify and realise opportunities to maximise the potential and long-term sustainability of their land and assets.

Our planning advice is informed by a thorough understanding of National Planning Framework 4, local development plans and the wider policy context, ensuring that proposals are robust, deliverable and aligned with current planning policy objectives.
